Community Power Accelerator (CPA) is an online platform that connects distributed solar developers with capital providers, focusing on low-income and disadvantaged communities. As of November 26, 2024, 209 developers, 52 with projects on the platform, and 68 nonprofits/community-based organizations were involved. 162 projects and 48 lenders and 22 investors were listed. Key data includes $1.7 billion funds committed by capital providers, 87 capital partners participating in the marketplace, 216 connections made, and an average project cost of $4,281,644. The platform has facilitated $671+ million in capital sought for projects, with debt, tax equity, grant, and other financing types represented. The CPA aims to expand capacity and expertise for community-led solar deployment, standardize equitable access to financing, build a robust project pipeline with meaningful benefits, and bridge the gap between projects needing funding and capital providers. For capital providers, the platform serves as a marketplace to discover and connect with project developers. For project developers, it offers a way to find and connect with capital providers. The platform is funded by the U.S. DOE and is free for users. The CPA also emphasizes the importance of community benefits from distributed solar projects, such as energy bill savings, community wealth-building, and equitable workforce development. It highlights the role of the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF) and other funding sources in financing solar projects, particularly in disadvantaged communities.
