2、rgument for independent brewers so my thanks once again to everyone involved in the production of the report and to every brewer who supplied the data that makes it the definitive contemporary guide to the dynamics of our sector.I am an optimist at heart and always try to look for an opportunity in
3、every challenge.The market is tough and changing rapidly.In the weeks leading up to the publication of this report we saw the demise of BrewDog and Innis&Gunn and the closure of the Sharps Brewery by Molson Coors.As well as the sad loss of jobs and financial investment,these developments leave behin
4、d a wealth of local goodwill and a demand for independently brewed beer in the communities that have lost out.This is a key opportunity highlighted in the report.It shows there is good consumer and sales demand for a wide range of independent beer amongst drinkers of all ages,especially the younger
5、generation.My admiration goes out to the independent brewers who continue to innovate and diversify their product and retail offer.An ever-increasing number of brewers are developing direct sales to local drinkers as their route to success,so it is reassuring to see on my travels busy brewery taproo
6、ms amongst an environment of“To Let”boards outside pubs with the same formulated global beer offer.With the cost of a pint so high,drinkers are more discerning than they are often given credit for.Despite this demand we have 137 fewer brewers than a year ago and half of those that remain cite“surviv
