The Smart Audio Report, conducted post-Christmas 2019, revealed that one in four U.S. adults owns a smart speaker, amounting to approximately 60 million people. The report, comparing data from 2017 to 2019, shows a significant growth of 135% in the number of smart speakers in U.S. households over two years. In terms of usage, 54% of adults aged 18+ have used voice commands, with 24% using them nearly every day.

- 33% use smart speakers several times a day, 27% nearly every day, 21% at least once per week
- 54% of U.S. adults 18+ have ever used voice commands, with 24% using them nearly every day
The report also highlights changes in audio listening habits, showing a 5% decrease in music share and a 20% increase in spoken word share over five years. Smart speaker owners primarily listen to streaming audio (46%), followed by AM/FM radio (24%), owned music (10%), podcasts (5%), and SiriusXM (8%).
