原因之二是量子系统和量子计算之间天生就存在一致性,相比其他应用领域,材料研发任务本质上就尤其适合转化为量子问题,适合用量子模拟来解决。化合物和各类材料的特性受到诸多因素的约束,如化学键的建立和断裂、电子的运动和磁场行为等都由量子力学决定。而经典计算仰仗的是近似计算,要计算更大的分子就不可避免地会出现大量错误交织的情况,导致结果不准确。相较之下,量子计算机就不涉及这些只能模糊计算的因子,只需要把电子和原子核之间的相互作用直接映射到量子比特上,使用真实存在的量子系统就能表示它们之间的关系。而量子计算的部分应用领域天然不具比问题映射的便利性,例如多数金合问题并不涉及量子力学的本质特性,对其做量子模拟并不一定能够提供显著优势。
