1、UCIs“glog”:A Centralized Log Storage and Analysis SystemBuilt with Open-Source Components,Centralized log management is“must-have”infrastructure.The use cases are many:debugging,performance and operational analysis,monitoring and alerting,and collaboration between these functions,new approaches and
2、insights that cross the boundaries of individual devices or applications.Everyone benefits:developers,systems engineers,operations and security,breaking down silos in the spirit of“DevOps.”Logging systems dont come cheap,however.Vendor solutions are pricey.DIY is difficult to scale to the level of a
3、 large university IT department,and requires significant resources.This presentation showcases a home-grown solution from the UCI Office of IT,named“glog”.This was built entirely with open-source components,including Graylog community edition,OpenSearch data store,and tools from the Elasticsearch su
4、ite.This system has proven flexible and scalable,ingesting 40-50 million messages on a typical day,from 300 origin hosts,and growing.The architecture has been stable and sustainable,through several stages of expansion over the last 5 years.Originally deployed on-prem in UCIs self-managed data center
